Here's what actually separates Marathon's Gulf view from anywhere else in the Keys even the properties further south that have the same open water and the same Gulf sunsets.
The Seven Mile Bridge.
Stretching nearly seven miles across the sparkling blue-green waters between Marathon and the Lower Keys, the Seven Mile Bridge is one of the most breathtaking engineering landmarks in the United States. From certain Gulf-front properties in Marathon, especially those near the southern end of the island, you get the bridge as part of your view the old historic span running parallel to the new one, both disappearing into the distance across open water. It's the kind of backdrop that makes you keep stopping whatever you're doing just to look at it again.
The old bridge, built in 1912 under Henry Flagler's vision for a railway to Key West, was once called the "Eighth Wonder of the World"a nickname it arguably still deserves. Today it functions as a walking and cycling path above the water, accessible from Marathon, with views that take in so many shades of blue, dramatic Florida clouds, boats moving underneath, and pelicans working the channels. From a Gulf-view rental nearby, it's not an attraction you have to drive to it's part of what you're looking at from your deck.
Not every Marathon Gulf-view property includes the bridge in the frame. If this is something you specifically want and once you've seen it as a backdrop, it's hard to imagine not wanting it ask the host directly about the sightline before booking. Waterfront villa in Marathon Florida Keys
